A warm and welcoming pub full of atmosphere and charm. The Bell is located only a short taxi ride from the guesthouse, at the top of Purleigh Hill, with some of the best views in Essex. They provide extremely good food using a lot of local products. It is advisable to book, especially on a Saturday.

Thomas Plume's library was founded in 1704 and contains approximately 8100 publications

Beeleigh Abbey.

A walk to Beeleigh and see the restored 12th century Abbey, the garden and grounds are occasionally open to the public.

Promenade Walk.

Open parkland with amusements and some activity facilities, take a stroll to the end of the prom and view the statue of Byrhtnoth, leader of the Anglo-Saxons in their defence against the vikings.

The Hythe Quay.

Home port to the largest fleet of fully rigged sailing barges and on any weekday up to ten of these vessels can be seen along the quay.

Maeldune Centre.

The Maeldune Heritage Centre houses the 42 foot Maldon embroidery which celebrates the 1000th anniversary of the Battle of maldon.
